To support the rapid evaluation and translation of high-impact emerging technologies, the Innovation Catalyst Program established the Proof-of-Principle Fund. These funds, along with support from the Georgia Research Alliance (GRA), are used to invest in new, promising technologies that are aligned with the Georgia CTSA strategic goals.

Application Process

Technology investments using the Proof-of-Principle Fund are made through a an RFA application and prioritization process that emphasizes developments that would substantially impact the Georgia CTSA community. For more information, contact the Innovation Catalyst program office.

Supported Technologies

The technologies supported in part by this fund include:

  • The QTRAP 5500 is a mass spectrometer coupled to a liquid chromatography system that is used to analyze lipids in both clinical and research samples. It will be used for many years and housed in Emory’s Lipidomics Core. Contact: Eric Ortlund, PhD
  • Lattice Light Sheet microscopy is a transformative technology for single cell analysis with nearly unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution for live cell imaging (see publication in Science). This equipment will benefit numerous researchers in Georgia that use fluorescence imaging. Contact: Adam Marcus, PhD
  • MESO QuickPlex SQ 120 is an imaging instrument that reads 96-well plates to measure protein levels of various proteins like an ELISA reader using chemiluminescent detection with high precision. Contact: Malu Tansey, PhD
  • Hitachi HT-7700 Transmission Electron Microscope includes an integrated CCD camera and computer automation that will increase client output, train users in automated TEM processes, and offer a broader range of experimental procedures. Contact: Elizabeth R. Wright, PhD

  • Deltavision deconvolution microscope to enhance the existing molecular imaging capabilities at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). Contact: Xuebiao Yao, PhD
  • Emory-GRA Genomics Center: Genome analyzers (454 Sequencing GS-FLX instrument, Illumina GAII) and peripheral equipment to establish a next-generation sequencing core at Emory. Contact: Tim Read, PhD
